Plymouth BEYOND THE ROCK

Hike n’ Bike Forum

Drop that remote! Back away from the mouse! Get up, get out and get moving!

Do you know where the hiking and biking trails are in Plymouth? Where the conservation areas are? Do trails connect? Do you know how Community Preservation Funds for open space have been spent?

Join us for a Hike n’ Bike forum, sponsored by the Network of Open Space Friends, March 14, 6:30 to 8:30, Otto Fehlow Room at the Plymouth Public Library. Get some answers. Get some maps. Hear from people in the know. Brainstorm with other hikers and bikers.

6:30 pm:  Open Space Fair with non-profit organizations and vendors.

7:00 pm:  Speakers include State Senator Therese Murray; Valerie Massard, Town Planner; Malcom MacGregor, Open Space Committee member presenting maps of existing and possible future trails; Rodrigo Marion of the Old Colony Planning Council on biking in Plymouth and beyond; and Denis Hanks, Chamber of Commerce.

Speakers to be followed by facilitated discussion groups:  How can we improve hiking trails? Can we make cycling safer? Can we promote Plymouth as an outdoor destination (Beyond the Rock)? What outdoor activities can you get to without a car? Are there other uses for open space?

Come. Bring ideas. Bring a friend. Go home with maps and fliers about places and activities to enjoy BEYOND THE ROCK.

Around Old Sandwich Golf Club

Saturday morning 23 of us hiked the perimeter of the Old Sandwich Golf Club. It was a great morning for it. Much better than last Saturday would have been. We hiked 4.7 miles by adding a portion through the woods across Old Sandwich Road.
The next hike will be on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. We will walk Wildlands Trust’s Willow Brook and Fleetwood Farm Preserves. It is about 3 miles and mostly flat. It features the North River and Pudding Brook, woodlands and open fields.
